Medvedkoy is called the insect wrecker of 35-50 mm in size living in the soil. Large number of these wreckers in kitchen garden is capable to ruin completely harvest, gnawing through roots of cultural plants.
Why to destroy medvedka
This insect lives in the soil, on surface appears seldom, only at night. The medvedka has short leathery nadkrylnik allowing it to make short flights. Besides this insect can swim not bad and also quickly digs holes the powerful front legs. From winter frosts of medvedka escape at depth of 80-100 cm.
Mass exit of the wrecker is necessary for the end of May, at this time there is pairing, females do layings underground, in places with the increased humidity. Development of egg to condition of larva is 15-20 days, after that they are ready to eat independently, podgryzy roots of cabbage, tomatoes, eggplants. In root crops of potatoes, beet, carrots, turnips of medvedka gnaw big cavities, break off and peregryzat roots. At the same time elevated part of plants fades, crops dry up. If not to pay due attention to fight against medvedka, the harvest can be ruined completely.
As to fight with them
There are many ways of disposal from medvedok, most of them – mechanical destruction: deep redigging of the soil allows to remove large number of larvae. Quite effective, but labor-consuming action: at the end of September it is necessary to dig out in the soil of hole of 0.5 m in depth, to fill them with fresh manure or compost, and late fall (in November) to scatter contents of holes on the site. Medvedki, gathered for wintering, with guarantee will die as will not be able to find to themselves the new shelter. In the spring after landing of garden cultures it is possible to display traps from manure or compost too on the site that the female has made laying there. In three weeks it is necessary to check trap and to destroy larvae. It is considered that the medvedka perishes if it eats egg shell – for this purpose in the courses the baits made of mix of shell and vegetable oil are displayed. The marigold seeded on the site, flooding in the courses of insect of infusion of onions peel, soap solution, boiled water frighten off the wrecker, there are also other methods of fight against this insect. The most effective way – use of the special chemical medicines "Thunder", "Medvetoks"," Medvetsid" and others. At their application it is necessary to study attentively instructions and to strictly follow them, taking necessary safety precautions. However the medvedka can be and very useful – in east medicine this insect with success is applied to treatment of steady forms of tuberculosis. The enzyme of feraz which is contained in medvedka fabrics is capable to dissolve cover of tubercular stick owing to what the disease responds to treatment better.
